This approach is based on the recognition of the micro-modifications of the archaeological tools originated by the contact of the item with the object by which its raw material is modified – technological traces – or by the contact with the material worked by the item itself– use-traces.
LTFAPA laboratory applies two independent approaches, Low-Power Approach and High-Power Approach, and uses different types of equipment (Optical Light Microscopes plus Confocal System, Digital Microscope, Scanning Electron Microscope SEM), to observe, describe and interpret technological and use traces on stone, osseus, metal tools and pottery.
LTFAPA laboratory collaborates with the Department of Chemical Engineering, Materials, Environment of Sapienza University of Rome for the study of the mechanisms of alteration of the archaeological traces and with the University of Suor Orsola Benincasa (Naple) for the 3D restitution and modelling of the technological and use-traces.
